We never really had a plan, it sort of developed over time as we had some successes and of course some failures.  We started buying Buy To Let property initially, with the ambition to build a property empire and retire early, this didn't quite materialise how we imagined, or as quickly as we imagined, however as we matured and learned from out mistakes we gradually formulated a BTL plan to get us closer to where we wanted to be.

Our plan developed further as we explored other income sources other than rental income from BTL and eventually settled on three main income streams to achieve our goal, this time over a more realistic timeframe.

1. Rental Income from our Buy To Let properties

2. Investment Income from Stocks and Shares held within ISAs

3. Company Pensions.

We both successfully managed to generate enough income from the first two streams to allow us to give up our main employment back in 2018, this was a big step for us both, but we did it.  This gave us the freedom of choice, however going from full employment to no employment we had time on our hands, we both, at different times chose to take up part time employment in a field that interested us both, as the saying goes, find something you enjoy and you'll never have to work a day in your life.

At the time we made these changes we were both only a few years away from 55 years old and therefore not long to wait for the third income stream to kick in, the pensions!  This is yet to happen as I write early 2021.

​

We're still actively investing, managing our property portfolio and also making important investment decisions regarding our pension pots.  In effect, our job has now become managing our assets.

​

Our journey has been fun most of the time, hard work some of the time and on occasion scary.
